Concrete Visitors Information Center

Concrete Visitors Information Center by visitwainfo

360 853-8767 Visit Us: We're located in the East County Resource Center Early settlers came to the Baker River in 1871, originally calling the settlement on the west bank “Minnehaha.” In 1890. The townsite was platted by Magnus Miller, and called “Baker”. On the east bank of the river, the Washington Portland Cement Company (1905) was started and called that “Cement City.” After the Superior Portland Cement Company plant (1908) was built in Baker, the towns merged and in 1909, after much discussion, the new community settled on the name “Concrete.” Prior to 1921, several fires destroyed most of the original wooden buildings which had lined Main Street. Since concrete was in ample supply, it was decided that subsequent commercial buildings would be made from this nonflammable material. Historic plaques on many of the buildings list their construction dates. chamber@concrete-wa.com

Long Beach Peninsula - 28-miles of beach

Long Beach Peninsula - 28-miles of beach by VisitWa

http://funbeach.com Wild and invigorating, this long, wide stretch of sandy, public coastline is continually voted Washington’s BEST BEACH. Often called the World’s Longest Beach, Long Beach is easily accessible from several public approaches, this windswept expanse is a favorite for shorebird watching, beachcombing, kite flying and long walks. From Seaview, head south to Beard’s Hollow. From Long Beach or Ocean Park, follow the beach all the way to Leadbetter Point. Seasonally, the beach is popular for razor clam digging, horseback excursions and fishing. At the Bolstad Ave. approach, the beach is the site for the Washington State International Kite Festival (3rd week in August), the Beach to Chowder Run, Doggie Olympic Games, and Sandsations. Countless volunteers participating in quarterly beach cleanups keep the beach looking great for everyone’s enjoyment.

Discovery Trail

Discovery Trail by VisitWa

This impressive, paved 8.3-mile coastal trail with its views of the Pacific Ocean is a favorite for walkers, runners and bike riders. The trail offers multiple access points for shorter or longer treks. More protected from the elements than the beach, it meanders from Ilwaco, over the Cape Disappointment headlands, to a wetlands boardwalk at Beard’s Hollow, and parallels the coast through grass-covered dunes to Long Beach. A legacy of the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Commemoration, the trail is enhanced by a series of interpretive markers, including a bronze condor at the southern terminus and a 20-bronze windswept pine at the north end. Interpretive displays offers insight into Captain William Clark’s Nov. 1805 initial exploration of the Pacific Coast. http://funbeach.com/local-attractions/discovery-trail/
