Visitor Info at the landmark Teapot Gas Station

Visitor Info at the landmark Teapot Gas Station by visitwainfo

Ph. 509-829-5055 A quick stop off the I-82 freeway puts you at a fun stop -- the Teapot Gas Station. This landmark comes from a political scandal of the 1920’s, and it is now listed on the National Historic Register. Zillah has equipped this quaint landmark with visitor information that is usually open during the day. Restrooms are available, and parking is easy. Since 1891, Zillah has been a pleasant community first founded by the construction of the irrigation canals that brought water to the sagebrush hills to the north. Today much of these irrigated lands are very productive vineyards lying within a few miles drive from Zillah. Zillah was named in honor of Miss Zillah Oakes, daughter of Northern Pacific Railroad’s president. Northern Pacific helped bring the irrigation water to the uplands of Zillah. Myrtle Falls at Mt. Rainier -- Photo Op

Myrtle Falls at Mt. Rainier -- Photo Op by VisitWa

If you can tear your eyes away from the view of Mount Rainier at Paradise there's another nearby attraction: 72 foot high Myrtle Falls. With Mount Rainier in the background it's where everyone with a camera stops for a photo - expect to mingle with photographers bristling with tripods. This picturesque setting is known as one of the most photographed areas of the park - and as a bonus it's an easy walk to the falls. With Mount Rainier as your backdrop, see Myrtle Falls as it descends along Edith Creek. A classic view -- one of the signature views in Mount Rainier National Park. The falls skip along the rocks, descending 60 to 80 feet through the impressive gorge carved out by Edith Creek. To view the falls, follow the Skyline Trail 0.3 miles from Paradise to a stairway leading down to the spectacular view. Submitted by VisitRainier.com Call for Info @ 877-270-7155

Reflection Lake Trail

Reflection Lake Trail by VisitWa

One of the most iconic views of Mt. Rainier in the park can be found at Reflection Lakes. Summer and fall, sunrise and sunset, it is perhaps the single-most photographed view for both budding and experienced photographers, who return again and again. Many consider this area to be the park at its best -- colorful blooms, enchanting animal life, and scenic, awe-inspiring beauty of mountain peaks and alpine lakes. Begin on the Wonderland Trail, go a short distance, and veer right on the Lakes Trail. You will be moving up through a wet meadow to a junction with the High Lakes Trail at 3/4 of a mile. Turn right and travel about 1 1/4 miles with frequent views of Mount Rainier and the Tatoosh Range. At 2 miles, you'll reach a junction of the Lakes Trail. Turn right and downhill. Next up is Faraway Rock, and up means to a sheer cliff for a stupendous view of Louise Lake, Reflection Lakes, the Tatoosh Range (including Pinnacle Peak), and much of Stevens Canyon. Christine Falls

Christine Falls by VisitWa

One of the most popular photo ops around Mt. Rainier. The 1928 stone masonry highway bridge forms a picturesque frame over 40 foot Christine Falls as it splashes down the lower reaches of Van Trump Creek. A small flight of stairs leads to a beautiful lookout of the falls. Christine Falls is a waterfall on Van Trump Creek in Pierce County, Washington. The falls are 69 feet (21 m) feet high and are best known for having a bridge spanning the lower drop. The upper drop is 32 feet (9.8 m) high and is almost impossible to film in tandem with the oft-photographed 37-foot (11 m) lower tier. The lower tier is probably one of the most commonly photographed locations in the Mount Rainier area. Submitted by VisitRainier.com Call for Info @ 877-270-7155

Box Canyon Picnic Area and View

Box Canyon Picnic Area and View by VisitWa

Box Canyon Picnic Area is located just east of the bridge and tunnel on the Stevens Canyon Road. After lunch, you can walk across the bridge for a dizzying view of the deep slot of the canyon, carved by the Cowlitz River thousands of years ago. This is the Muddy Fork of the Cowlitz River while only a few feet wide, the river has, over time, cut a channel into the mossy rock and created a canyon 100 feet deep but only 15 to 30 feet across. Comet Falls Hike

Comet Falls Hike by VisitWa

Even as Comet Falls is billed as 'possibly the most dazzling falls in the Mt. Rainier National Park,' the trip can be even more extraordinary with a tad more hiking up to Van Trump Park where vast wildflower fields await. For two miles the trail climbs steadily up hill until it reaches the base of Comet Falls. From there it switchbacks .6 mile uphill to the junction with the Rampart Ridge Trail. Van Trump Park is to the right, where the trail winds through the meadows until it dead ends in .5 mile. Comet Falls Trail is a moderately difficult to difficult, 3.8 mile round-trip hike gaining 900 feet elevation and has a high point of 5200 feet. Allow three hours to complete. The trail is accessible mid-July through October.

Grove of the Patriarchs -- 30 feet around and 1,000 years old by VisitWa

A spectacular and easy family-friendly hike is to the Grove of the Patriarchs. For over 1,000 years, the trees of the small island in the Ohanapecosh River have been protected from fire, avalanche and flood and able to grow to their colossal size. People come from all over the world to experience walking through ancient forests of trees with 30-foot circumferences. Hike along the Ohanapecosh River to a lush island harboring an ancient cathedral forest of towering western red cedars and Douglas-firs. Some of these gargantuan trees are over 1,000 years old. Narada Falls

Narada Falls by VisitWa

Narada Falls, on the way to the Paradise side of Mt. Rainier, is both figuratively and literally “breathtaking”, as this 168-foot waterfall’s glacier-fed waters fan a thick mist out over its most popular viewpoint. Submitted by VisitRainier.com Call for Info @ 877-270-7155 Located near Paradise in Mt. Rainier National Park. The falls are signed and marked on the free park maps. The parking lot is easily found by driving along SR 706, to the marked Narada Falls viewpoint. The parking area is located at the brink of the falls, but to see the falls, one must follow a short trail which offer full views of the falls veiling into the canyon. Though the trail is paved to the viewpoint, it's too steep for wheelchairs.

Sunrise Visitor Center at Mt. Rainier

Sunrise Visitor Center at Mt. Rainier by VisitWa

Extending off the northeast flank of Mt. Rainier is spectacular Sunrise Ridge, the highest point in the Park to which visitors can drive. Clear days offer views of five neighboring volcanoes. Sitting at an elevation of 6,400-feet, Sunrise offers Mount Rainier's highest visitor center. With close-up views of the massive Emmons Glacier, Sunrise rivals the more popular Paradise when it comes to scenic splendor. Situated in the park's drier northeastern corner (thanks to Mount Rainier's rain-shadow effect), Sunrise as the name suggests is also one of the first places in the park to capture morning's early light. The national park service maintains an excellent visitor center here complete with exhibits on Rainier's geology and the park's natural and cultural history. The center also offers book sales and free ranger hosted programs and guided walks. And at the center you can also use one of several mounted telescopes to take in close-up views of Rainier's impressive glaciers. Call for Info @ 877-270-7155
