The Burke Museum, on the University of Washington campus, offers its members and visitors opportunities to learn about whales through exhibits, programs, and educational materials for classroom use. Specimens in the research collections include skeletons of both fossil and contemporary whales. The state of Washington is home to a particularly rich variety of fossil cetaceans from the past 50 million years. The Burke Museum’s ethnology collection represents the importance of whales in the art and culture of Indigenous People of North America.
