Stadium High School in Tacoma, WA

Stadium High School in Tacoma, WA by Tacoma

The main building of Stadium High School was constructed by architects Hewitt and Hewitt for the Northern Pacific Railroad Company and the Tacoma Land Company in 1891 with the intention of building a luxury hotel resembling a French chateau. The Panic of 1893 however, brought construction to an abrupt halt when the Northern Pacific was faced with financial disaster. The unfinished building was purchased by the Tacoma School District in 1904. The reconstructed building opened September 10, 1906 as Tacoma High School. Seven years later, the name was changed to reference the adjacent Stadium Bowl. The stadium, also designed by Frederick Heath, dates from 1910 and it originally offered a seating capacity of 32,000. Among those who spoke there were Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Warren G. Harding, William Jennings Bryan, and Billy Sunday.

Willamette Falls south of Portland, OR

Willamette Falls south of Portland, OR by Portland

The Willamette Falls is a natural waterfall on the Willamette River between Oregon City and West Linn, Oregon, in the United States. It is the largest waterfall in the Pacific Northwest (2nd largest in the United States behind Niagara Falls) and the eighteenth largest in the world by water volume.[1] Horseshoe in shape, it is 1,500 feet (460 m) wide and 40 feet (12 m) high. Located 26 miles (42 km) upriver from the Willamette's mouth as it joins the Columbia River. A canal by-passes the falls for navigation through the series of locks into the main Willamette Valley. Operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the four lock canal is the oldest continuously operating, multiple lift navigation canal in the United States. Open Hours: 24/7 The public can view the falls from a signed viewpoint along Highway 99E, from the Oregon City Bridge, from a viewpoint on northbound I-205, and most dramatically from a boat in the river. Portland Spirit offers regular tours up the river to view the falls.

A (Downtown) Edmonds kind of day!

A (Downtown) Edmonds kind of day! by YodioCalvin

Downtown Edmonds is a walkable, livable, community-spirited downtown. The city has gone to great efforts to retain the charm of a small town community. The sidewalks are busy with residents and visitors walking about the town visiting the shopkeepers, restaurants, coffee shops, and more. Our tour begins near the ferry terminal and the sandy beaches of Brackett’s Landing, and the tour is likely a 20-30 minutes of walking on gentle grades and flat sidewalks. We begin by walking up the slight incline of Main Street to retrace the steps of the early residents who primarily arrived to Edmonds by boat. During this tour, you will encounter a number of attractions and distractions during this short walk. At a casual walking pace this is a 30 minute tour. The charm of downtown Edmonds will likely lull you into stops for shopping and talking, and the results can easily stretch your tour to 90 minutes. Enjoy downtown Edmonds, we do.

Edmonds -- Walking tour of Waterfront

Edmonds -- Walking tour of Waterfront by YodioTours

Edmonds is one of Washington’s most livable waterfront towns. Located right on the Puget Sound, the community’s downtown is very walkable with an abundance of restaurants and gift stores. Edmonds takes pride in retaining its sense of community, and they have intentionally kept the buildings to just a few stories to protect their community culture. On each side of the Washington State Ferry terminal are very pleasant waterfront parks. This tour will help you enjoy the waterfront walkways as it guides you through both parks – Brackett’s North and South. The outlook from the shores faces west toward the Olympic Mountain range and north up Admiralty Inlet – the access from the Pacific Ocean to Seattle and the south Puget Sound. Edmonds was settled in 1800's by the George Brackett family. A casual pace on this tour will take about 30 minutes. If you bring a picnic lunch or a take out from one of the nearby establishments, you can enjoy very pleasant dining on a sunny day.
