walk, museum, history, photoop, Lisbon, Lisboa
The Lisbon Aqueduct was constructed in 1746 and managed to withstand the devastating earthquake of 1755. It is 56 km long and consists of 109 stone arches which were the tallest in the world when they were built. The aqueduct was in use until 1967 when a more modern water delivery system was fully implemented. The aqueduct is a stunning and prominent feature of the Lisbon landscape. It is possible to walk over the aqueduct and enjoy its stunning view via tours conducted by the Museu da Auga (see separate entry).
