Museo da Agua (Water Museum)

An elaborate water supply system began construction in 1746 with the construction of the Lisbon aqueduct (see separate entry). Water was brought in to the city via the aqueduct and stored in underground cisterns, called Mae da Agua (Mother of Water). Recently EPAL, the local water utility, opened the cisterns to the public and also completed a water museum. The museum is open from 10 AM- 6 PM (1000-1800) Monday through Saturday. It is closed on Sunday’s and Holiday’s. Admission is 2,50€ for adults and free for children 13 and under.
